Systems Design Engineer - Shape Complex Technology That Actually Matters
Some engineering roles are about maintaining the status quo. This isn’t one of them.
We’re looking for a Systems Design Engineer who thrives on complexity, enjoys solving hard problems and wants to work on technology where performance, precision and reliability genuinely matter.
You’ll join a high-calibre engineering team responsible for evolving and improving a sophisticated, highly integrated system through continuous software and capability upgrades. Think complex architectures, advanced modelling and real engineering challenges, not endless paperwork and meetings.
This is a role for someone who likes being close to the technical detail, but also understands how the bigger system fits together.
What you’ll be doing
- You’ll play a key role across the full systems lifecycle, including:
- Defining and managing system requirements
- Developing and justifying system architectures
- Creating interface definitions and integration strategies
- Designing verification and proving plans
- Running performance modelling and technical studies
- Coordinating multiple specialist engineering teams to deliver complex software upgrades
- Supporting design reviews and technical decision making
You’ll collaborate with experts across areas such as guidance, control, modelling, simulation and software — bringing everything together to ensure the overall system performs exactly as intended.
Why this role stands out
- You’ll work on complex, high-integrity systems where engineering quality matters.
- You’ll be part of a tight knit, technically strong team where your input will be visible.
- There’s genuine scope to shape the work and lead technical activities as you grow.
- The work involves advanced modelling, systems thinking and real problem solving.
What we’re looking for
You’ll likely bring:
- Experience in systems engineering across multiple lifecycle phases
- Strength in requirements, architecture, verification or performance analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to produce clear, structured technical documentation
- Confidence working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Curiosity and the desire to keep developing technically
The package includes:
- £52,000 - £57,000 salary
- Performance bonus
- Up to 14% total pension contribution
- Flexi-leave with up to 15 additional days
- Paid overtime opportunities (after 37 hours per week)
- Hybrid working (4 - 5 days on site due to project sensitivity)
- Excellent site facilities, healthcare cash plan and enhanced parental leave
The bottom line
If you enjoy systems thinking, complex engineering challenges and working with seriously capable people, this is a role worth exploring.
Not every engineering job lets you work on technology this advanced, or with teams this good.
