Senior Electronic Test & Testability Engineer
Based in Bolton
Salary circa £72,000 + Bonus up to 27% + Car Allowance + 14% Pension
Some engineers design products.
Others make sure they actually work.
If you enjoy getting deep into electronics, understanding how systems fail, and designing the test strategies that keep complex electronic systems operational, this role will give you real influence.
You will join a specialist Test & Testability team responsible for shaping how complex electronic systems are designed to be tested, diagnosed and supported across the full lifecycle, from early concept through to production and in-service support.
This is not simply executing tests. You will define how testing should be done and how the design allows it to be tested.
What you will be doing
You will act as a technical authority for electronic test and testability, working across multiple programmes.
Your work will include:
- Defining test strategies and architectures across development and production
- Designing BIT and diagnostic approaches to maximise system coverage
- Improving test equipment requirements and specifications
- Analysing production test data to identify trends and diagnose failures
- Supporting critical design reviews and technical investigations
- Mentoring engineers and shaping best practice across the test organisation
You will also contribute to new product bids and technology roadmaps, helping influence how future systems are designed for test and maintainability.
What we are looking for
Engineers who understand how complex electronic systems are tested and diagnosed.
Typical experience includes:
- Electronic circuit design and test
- Failure analysis and root cause investigation
- Test equipment design
- Design for Test (DfT) or testability engineering
- Requirements capture and technical specification
You will also be comfortable influencing senior engineers and project stakeholders on the technical direction of testing strategy.
Why this role stands out
- Influence test strategy across major development programmes
- Work at the intersection of electronics design, production and diagnostics
- Significant technical autonomy
- Strong package including a bonus up to 27%, car allowance and 14% pension
Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be British citizens or dual UK nationals eligible for UK security clearance.
If you enjoy solving the hardest problems in electronics testing, diagnosing failures others cannot see, and shaping how complex systems are proven and supported, this is a role worth exploring.
