Senior Electronics Engineer

Based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire

Salary from £43,500 to £54,500 DOE + Benefits

If your idea of a good day is chasing down a marginal derating issue on an FPGA-based PCB destined for a genuinely harsh environment, this one is worth a proper look.

You will take mixed electrical and electronic designs from concept through to completion, working a structured phase-gate process rather than firefighting from spec to spec. Real ownership here, defining the processes and procedures that shape how electrical and electronic hardware gets designed and built, reviewing supplier capability, and shaping the functional and physical requirements that hold an integrated design architecture together.

Day-to-day, you are in the detail. Analogue, digital, microprocessor and FPGA design. Power electronics. Circuit simulation, analysis, test and evaluation. Schematic capture and PCB layout, with the documentation trail, trade studies, compliance evidence and test reports, to back it all up.

This is defence and aerospace grade engineering, so Def-Stan and Mil standards awareness is beneficial, as does a solid handle on EMC at both product and PCB level.

Tools-wise, you will be at home in Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout, comfortable debugging over JTAG, and used to logging your work in Windchill or an equivalent PLM system.

Please note, this role requires security clearance, so you will need to be a sole UK national to be considered.

What you will need:
  • A formal electronics qualification, HNC, HND or BEng
  • Hardware design and electrical product development experience for harsh environments
  • Confidence analysing derating, stress and tolerance
  • Proven schematic capture and PCB layout experience, Altium preferred, with IPC awareness
  • EMC awareness at product and PCB level
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance, sole UK nationality required
  • Familiarity with Def-Stan or Mil standards, and safety and quality processes
  • Comfortable supporting or managing aspects of assembly, integration and test
  • Lab test equipment experience, plus JTAG design and debug
  • Windchill or similar PLM tool experience
You will be based on-site in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, reporting to the Design Team Lead, working alongside a team that cares about getting the engineering right, not just getting it out the door.
