Configuration Management Engineer (4 Day Week)

Ampthill, Bedfordshire | On-site | £44,000 to £54,500 | Monday to Thursday

Nobody notices a clean baseline. Everybody notices a broken one.

If you work in configuration management, you already know that. You’re the person who can tell an engineer which revision is the right one, what a proposed change will really touch, and why that “small tweak” isn’t small at all.

This role keeps you doing the configuration management work you’re good at, on complex defence programmes, and gives you a clear route into digital engineering, MBSE and digital twin work as the business modernises. Not many CM jobs offer that.

And your working week finishes on Thursday.

What you’ll be doing
  • Analysing proposed design changes for their impact on the wider product and system
  • Setting up and maintaining configuration baselines
  • Contributing to change control, assessing and tracking engineering changes
  • Writing impact reports so engineers and programme leads can make the right call
  • Reviewing released engineering change data and keeping it compliant with configuration management policy
  • Working with PLM and CM tools (Windchill experience is a bonus) alongside experienced engineers
  • Over time, getting involved in digital engineering, digital thread, digital twin and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) work
What you’ll need
  • Experience in configuration management within an engineering environment, as a Configuration Engineer, Configuration Analyst, CM Engineer or similar
  • A solid grasp of configuration management principles: identification, change control, status accounting and audit
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management tools and a PLM system
  • A degree in engineering or a related discipline
  • Sharp attention to detail, and the confidence to question a change that doesn’t add up
Nice to have
  • Configuration management experience in defence
  • Working knowledge of DEF STAN 05-57
  • Windchill PLM
  • MBSE tools and methods, SysML, or wider systems engineering exposure
  • Digital thread or data integration concepts
  • A feel for the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through prototyping, test and production
Got the essentials but not much from the second list? That’s fine. That’s what the digital side of the role is for.

Eligibility
This role needs SC clearance to start, with DV clearance to follow. Due to security clearance requirements, you must hold sole British citizenship, so unfortunately dual nationals can’t be considered.
