Cable Harness Assembler
Based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire
Salary from £32,000 to £40,000 - 4 day working week
If you take genuine pride in a perfect crimp, a clean solder joint and a harness built exactly to spec, this is worth a proper look.
You'll be building and inspecting high reliability cable harnesses, wiring looms and electro-mechanical assemblies for military, defence and aerospace equipment, working from detailed engineering drawings, build instructions and customer specifications. This is precision work for mission critical kit, so the standard of workmanship expected is high and non-negotiable.
Day to day, you're hands on. Wire preparation, crimping, soldering, connector assembly, lacing, bundling and harness dressing, all to military and customer defined standards. Fitting heat shrink, backshells, strain reliefs, shielding and identification markers exactly as the build documentation specifies. You'll run in-process self-inspection as you go,
carry out electrical testing including continuity, insulation resistance and functional testing, and keep the manufacturing and quality records that give full traceability.
Awareness of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 standards will help you settle in quickly, and if you already hold certification in either, so much the better.
What you'll need:
-
Proven experience in cable harness assembly, wiring looms or electro-mechanical assembly
-
Confidence reading engineering drawings, schematics, wiring schedules and build instructions
-
Hands-on crimping, soldering, cable preparation and connector assembly skills
-
Excellent attention to detail and a genuine focus on quality and workmanship
-
Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
Desirable:
-
IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification
-
J-STD-001 certification
-
Experience in defence, aerospace, naval or other high reliability sectors
-
Experience working in an environment requiring security clearance
This is based on-site in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, building equipment that genuinely has to work first time, every time.
