System Safety Engineer
Location: Home based with occasional visits to site in Bedfordshire
Salary: £37,000 to £62,000 + excellent benefits including a 4-day working week
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a System Safety Engineer, working with a global industry leader in the defence sector, where you will be responsible for generating Safety Cases for various business critical programmes and projects.
You will review product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications, and operations, and establish safety requirements for assigned systems. Independently analyse and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
AS well as this you will, develop safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements, performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program.
You will perform audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program as well as participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions will be required as will the evaluation of the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program.
System Safety Engineer skills and experience
Qualified to degree or equivalent standard in an engineering subject or equivalent experience/combined education with professional experience; or professional experience with a related Masters degree.
Proven experience in a safety-associated role, preferably in a defence related industry. That experience to include the determination and allocation of SILs.
Development and delivery of ALARP strategies
Detailed understanding and experience of UK, US and EEC Safety Legislation.
Fully familiar with the relevant Joint Service Publications and Defence Standards associated with safety assessment of defence equipment.
Experience with IT based toolsets common to the system safety discipline
