Hours:                   37 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity for a Thermal Engineer to join an ambitious, highly regarded, scientific engineering / manufacturing business that are in a position of sustained growth.

As a Senior Principal Thermal Engineer, you will apply your skills and experience to deliver critical advice on the thermal design, analysis, test and certification of military systems, supported in the delivery of this work by a breadth of in-house technical experts and collaborating organisations.

The role will see you carry out a range of activities such as, but not limited to;

  • Lead the delivery of the Thermal Analysis Team’s outputs by qualifying the quality and competence of its internal and external deliverables.
  • Build the capability and technical competence of the Thermal Team to ensure it is well positioned to meet future business needs.
  • Disseminate your skills and knowledge to help grow the capability of the Thermal Team.
  • Be the main point of contact with internal and external customers, suppliers and international partners on assigned projects and capability development programmes.
  • Plan, manage and deliver project work, ensuring outputs are delivered to time and budget and problems are mitigated as and when they arise.
  • Participate and manage others in delivering thermal investigations using hand calculations and analysis tools such as ANSYS, FloEFD, Fluent etc., to derive evidence on which to base decisions on the thermal performance of electronic subsystems and complete systems.
  • Develop test requirements and guide trials teams in delivering against these requirements.
  • Produce and deliver verbal and written reports to internal and external customers and stakeholders to ratify design and equipment thermal performance decisions.

Skills Required 

  • Master’s Degree/Doctorate qualified in a subject relevant to the role or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Good problem-solving skills coupled with a sound fundamental knowledge of thermal/heat transfer analysis using hand calculations, finite element analysis, CFD, etc.
  • Experience applying numerical based tools (e.g. ANSYS Mechanical, FloEFD, Fluent) to investigate and analyse thermal and heat conductance problems.
  • Relevant experience in an equivalent or comparable industry.
  • Experience leading and managing small teams and/or the delivery of projects.
  • Previous experience identifying and delivering capability and technical improvements.
  • Determined Individuals that are self-motivated and can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

You will need to be able and willing to gain (UK Eyes only) security clearance, potentially to DV level in the future.
