RF / Microwave Electronics Design Engineer
Stevenage

£45k - £60k + excellent bonus & pension
 
Context
A Stevenage based technical and scientific engineering organisation have an opportunity for a RF / Microwave Electronics Design Engineer

The position
You have experience in a radio systems architectural role in the defence or cellular radio infrastructure sectors. This role is also suited to someone looking for a more senior technical position.
 
Working within a high tech, dynamic and growing department you will be designing, leading & guiding the development of state-of-the art, high performing innovative radio solutions.
You will technically direct less experienced engineers to develop circuit elements in these solutions.
Communication skills are required. You will liaise with other functional areas eg systems teams, firmware teams, software developers etc
 
Required
Well performing teams need well performing engineers. You should have understanding and experience of the following: 
  • Architectures for medium - high power microwave transceivers and full-concurrency. 
  • Microwave radio frequency planning analysis.
  • Modelling link budgets and creation of top-level radio specs. 
  • Root cause analysis of prototype radio platform issues and implement solutions. 
  • Practical application of radio sub-system building blocks, eg LNAs, Mixers, Filters Synthesisers, HPA’s etc and applying them including temperature compensating biasing, power supply management, PCB layout and evaluation/testing of solutions. 
  • RF test equipment and understanding of limitations.  Combine actual measurements and theoretical predictions.
  • Designing for Military Environmental e.g. DEF Stan’s and Mil Specs.
  • Technical leadership of less experienced engineers.
Desirable
Experience of:
  • the Modem and DSP signal flow.
  • Experience of discrete analogue circuit design. 
  • Understanding of the use of mathematical modelling tools such as Matlab.
