Hours:                   37.5 hours per week

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Department Manager, the Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out the duties of the Engineering Department, including develop technical documentation and maintain project documentation and design files and may include, design, research, prototyping, estimating and process improvement. The expectation for this role is that the candidate will grow and develop into an independent Designer working on many projects.

What you will be doing:

The CAD Technician position focuses on using CAD software for the majority and frequently overlaps into engineering, support and design roles.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and drawings for design projects using CAD software
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers and project managers to gather project requirements and specifications
  • Provide customer and sales support to the engineering and design team
  • Provide and maintain accurate and up to date project documentation and design files
  • Ensure design meet industry standards and regulations, performing regular checks and audits
  • Update and revise existing drawings and models as required
  • Occasionally visit project sites to gather information and ensure design are feasible
  • Occasional practical maintenance scope required and systems assembly

Skills Required:

  • Associate or Batchelors degree in Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology or related field or;
  • 2 + years’ experience as a CAD technician or in a related role preferably in a product-based industry and manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks/ Autodesk Inventor or similar) with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
  • Willing to assist colleagues and collaborate effectively
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and drawings for design projects
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, industry standards and codes
  • Understanding and implementation of design tolerances
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience in design for Manufacturability, tolerance analysis and cost optimisation
