International Trade Compliance Lead
 
Location:                 Bedford with hybrid working options
 
Salary:                      Up to £70,000 (DOE) + Bonus, Pension, 4-day week & more
 
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an International Trade Compliance Lead, working with a global industry leader in the technology sector, where you will play a pivotal role in the ongoing success of the business.
 
You will be responsible for leading the Trade Compliance team which covers both military import/export compliance and regular international logistics import/export compliance, as well as being the site SME on trade compliance matters including how ITC regulations affect staffing/vetting.
 
To be successful in this role, you will have significant and recent experience in a trade compliance role and it is likely that you will have come into this from a higher level such as a legal background, compliance/audit background, or an engineering background potentially, particularly engineering compliance.
 
International Trade Compliance Lead:
  • Plans and coordinates import/export activities, including the flow of traffic to/from foreign destinations, related customer service, brokerage, and customs transactions.
  • Maintains compliance with UK and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products.
  • Researches and resolves customer or supplier issues. Interfaces with internal and external worldwide import/export operations and organizations.
  • Negotiates with foreign customers and suppliers to develop handling agreements. Acts as liaison with U.K. customs representatives to resolve problems.
  • Establishes requirements for licences for the export or import of military and dual use equipment and generates licence applications where necessary. 
  • Ensures exports do not take place without the necessary licences and export formalities and paperwork in place. 
  • Establishes, maintains, and controls relations with appropriate government licensing authorities to ensure that the company's position on licensing and technology release is conveyed, understood and accepted/approved.
  • Maintains accurate auditable records (supported by a colleague who manages the records) of all export/import activities sufficient to meet government requirements 
  • Ensures compliance with customs formalities to ensure smooth flow of goods, ensuring correct tariff application and payment of duties and maintaining AEO status 
 
International Trade Compliance Lead skills and experience
  • Experience of applying for and maintaining UK military/dual use Export/ Import licences including OGELs, OIELS, and SIELS
  • A background which involves understanding of working with defence or dual use products
  • Interface with UK authorities on licence applications/queries. (HMRC/ECJU)
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with UK Export Legislation.
  • Prior team leadership or management experience
  • Knowledge of ITAR would be a preference
