Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Bristol
Hours: 37 Hours per week pro rata
Salary: Up to 60,000 (bonus, overtime & good pension)
Context
A world leading, technical, scientific engineering enterprise has an embedded software engineering position. You’ll be working at the heart of the control systems software and can focus down at the tin or at the application layer. Both require interaction with the ARM processor.
These folks have a customer order book of several years and good profits. They’re stable with controlled growth and a great pension & bonus.
There’s a strong emphasis on development and training, they have a reputation for it. An example is they have their own university.
The position Embedded Software Engineer
A great role for someone with a passion for software and its deployment in modern weapon systems.
Down at the tin or working at the application-level software: this is essentially the control unit. It interacts with every system from; seekers, through navigation, guidance, launch platform using ethernet and serial ports. Lots of comms interfaces. Most of the software is bespoke with limited COTS.

Embedded software with C and/or C++.

Model-based development – eg UML tools: IBM’s Rhapsody or Matlab/Simulink.

Experience of software on real-time Operating Systems and ARM-based platforms.

Appreciation of firmware and electronics design.

Knowledge of modern software development practices.

Knowledge of standards: DefStan 00-55 & DO178B/C, or MISRA advantageous.

The site has 140 Software developers. The Embedded Software team consists of 35 engineers. Engineers are co-located providing supportive cooperation and interdependence.
The team develop the software that drives some of the most advanced missile systems in the world. They work on complex problems in small-focused teams of engineers, contributing to a talented group of expert software, systems and electronics engineers.
