Salary:              £30,000 - £41,000 + excellent benefits (Dependant on Experience)
 
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a technical Buyer, working with a global industry leader in the defence sector, where you will be an integral member of a dedicated supply chain department, supporting a range of major programmes.
 
This role will see you work as a Direct Buyer, procuring a mix of mechanical and electrical COTS/MOTS (Commercial Off The Shelf/Military Off The Shelf) components and equipment. You will have experience of the fundamental commercial elements of procurement such as RFQs, analysing quotes, selecting vendors and negotiation with vendors. 
 
As Buyer, you will cover a range of activities which will include:
  • Undertaking the procurement process including issuing RFQ’s bid evaluation, and award of contract
  • Negotiating with suppliers to ensure best-value is achieved
  • Achieving the successful delivery of procurements including the management of schedules.
  • Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships with key internal and external business contacts to achieve mutual benefit
  • Ensuring procurement activities are compliant with internal/legislative procedures, and that risks are identified and managed.
  • Providing the key interface between internal customers and suppliers to ensure that communication is effectively managed, and issues and risks are fully understood and communicated.
  • Supporting internal and external reviews of supplier performance as required
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of the supply chain processes 
 
Buyer skills and experience
  • Understanding of procurement best practice
  • Excellent commercial skills with the ability to analyse and negotiate best-value agreements
  • Data literate with strong analytical skills
  • Experience working within a fast-paced procurement function or similar environment
  • Direct experience of the management of tactical supplier relationships
  • Understanding of related disciplines/departments within a design and manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications and ideally SAP
  • Flexibility to travel as required
  • Mechanical (fabrications/machined items) and Electrical (box-build, cables, components) buying experience is desirable
